Filippo Terzi (1520 - 1597)

An Italian architect and military engineer (1520-1597), believed to have been born in Bologna, Terzi came to Lisbon in 1577. Appointed master builder at the Convent of Christ in 1584, he was commissioned by Queen Catarina (Catherine of Austria), the widow of João III, to remodel the Main Cloister.

In 1587 he took charge of the works on the Convent's aqueduct, which were sponsored by Philip II of Spain.
