Heating

In the corridors of the dormitory cells the air in the air gap between the dust protection layer in the roof and the coffered ceilings of the cells was heated.

The air circulated by thermal convection in the air gap and was heated by two fireplaces in special chambers (the calefactories), one of which still exists today. When it cooled down, the air sank down to the cell corridors again and was reheated in the calefactories.
