Baltazar de Faria ( ?- 1584)

Baltazar de Faria († 1584), was Knight Commander of the Order of Christ and counsel to the monarchs João III, Sebastião, Cardinal King Henrique and Philip I of Portugal (Philip II of Spain).
At the orders of João III he secured a Papal Bull from Pope Paul III that established the Inquisition in Portugal.
He was a judge for the Casa da Suplicação, the Inquisition court.
He is buried in a Renaissance tomb in the south gallery of the Cemetery Cloister.
